How to import a configuration files for PP

During analysis, it is sometimes necessary to reload results of previous analysis. Currently, when the program PP is restarted, the information when PP was last terminated is loaded.

For example, in the situation

  • First run: Simulated the behavior of the system when can observe a fixed point.
  • Second run: Simulated the behavior of the system when can observe a 4-periodic point.
  • Third run: Simulated the behavior of the system when can observe the fixed point again.

At the third start of PP, the information on the 4-periodic point simulated at the second run of PP is loaded. To resume the simulation of the fixed point obtained in the first run, user must be restarted to obtain the information on the fixed point.

To reduce such inconvenience, when the program PP is terminated, it is possible to save the current status, including information of the configuration for PP, into a file.*1

The current status of PP are saved as a XML formatted file. The following is an example of a configuration file for a 4-periodic point observed in the Henon map.

  1. First, start up PP.

  2. The following shows the state when PP starts up at first time.

  3. Select File -> Import -> PP save file.

  4. Start up PP save file selection window.

  5. Select the PP save file.

  6. When the file have imported, the saved data are reflected to each field.

How to save the configured state of PP

During analysis, it is sometimes necessary to reload results of previous analysis. Currently, when the program PP is restarted, the information when PP was last terminated is loaded.

For example, in the situation

  • First run: Simulated the behavior of a system with a parameter set when can observe equilibrium point A.
  • Second run: Simulated the behavior of the system with parameter set when can observe limit cycle.
  • Third run: Simulated the behavior of the system with parameter set when can observe equilibrium point B.
  • Fourth run: Simulate the behavior of the system with parameter set when can observe equilibrium point A again.

At the fourth start of PP, the information on the equilibrium point B simulated at the third run of PP is loaded. To resume the forth simulation by using information of the equilibrium point A obtained in the first run, the users must be restarted to obtain the information on the equilibrium point A.

To reduce such inconvenience, when the program PP is terminated, it is possible to save the current status, including information of the configuration for PP, into a file. To save the settings into a file, follow the steps shown below.

  1. Select File -> Export -> PP save file.

  2. Write the save file name. The default extension is .ppd. It's also able to change the extension.

  3. The produced file is a XML formatted file as follows:

How to import an initial value files edited as a text file

0 is the input for all Initial state fields and 1 is the input for all Parameters fields (figure below) when starting for the first time. Correct information on the attractor to be observed must be given in the Initial state and Parameters fields when simulating for the behavior of the system. Although such information can be manually entered by hand to a GUI panel, by making a text file following the rules below and importing the file, the contents of the file can be reflected in the respective fields, at least for values of state variable and parameters.

  1. Prepare a file describing parameters and state variables in this order. Check the order of the parameters using a web browser.*2
  2. State variables are placed from above in the order x[1], x[2], íŽíŽíŽ, x[n].

  3. Select File -> Import -> Initial states text.

  4. Select the text file from the file selection window, and import the file.

  5. The state after the import are reflected to the field of the state variables and parameters.

How to produce a text file composed of initial values and parameters

  1. Select File -> Export -> Initial states text.

  2. Write the save file name. The default extension is .iv. It's also able to change the extension.

  3. The generated file is the following text file.

How to pass the attractor information to FIX tool (Part 1)

If some kind of steady solution can be obtained, then by passing the information to FIX, it's able to search the parameter value that bifurcations occur.

There are two methods to pass attractor information to FIX tool:

  1. Pass some information such as parameter values, state variables, period, the kinds of attractors, etc, to FIX via PP tool (Recommend)
  2. To save the attractor information as a file composed of parameter values and the values of state variables at FIX tool.*3 After that, import the file at FIX tool.*4

The following method shows how to pass all the information that is necessary to run FIX to FIX tool.

  1. Confirm that the attractor reaches a steady state. Confirm the reaching the steady state by using states flow switch.*5 In this time, it recommends to click Pause Button.*6

  2. Select Tools -> Export current status.

  3. Display a comment that is exported in the list box if the export can be properly carried out.

  4. Start up FIX tool from the PP tool. Select Program -> FIX.

How to save the data of simulations

When user draw figures of the simulation result, and analyze other problems by using the numerical data of the orbit of the solution, there are to require the numerical data its own. The follow is how to save the data of simulation.

  1. Check the checkbox into Output file field.

  2. Write the file name to save data.
    • Orbit The data of the orbit of solutions
    • Map The data of the point of the Poincare map

  3. Set the amount of the data to save.
    • In the Default configuration, the data are saved at Unlimit mode (i.e., there are no limited the amount of data).

    • In the case that check the radio button into Endtime, the data until the set time or the set period are saved to a file.

  4. Click Start button after finishing the configuration.*9
  5. The data are saved into PP_dat under the Project directory.

  6. The data is a text formatted file. The values of parameters when the simulation is finished are recorded in the head line of the data.
